The Peddler
The day wears on…
Towards afternoon, the trees thin, revealing an overgrown track of dirt and stones. Following it, we happen upon a sad scene: a peddler’s wagon overturned, beside the bleached skeleton of some loyal donkey.
While there is no sign of the peddler’s corpse itself, the wagon still bulges with mouldered goods. We pick through the long-abandoned wares, plundering what trinkets we can.
The Peddler’s Shop
Each traveller can choose to take one new item from the cart (your packs don’t have room for more). Select your new item from the list below.
If you take a new item, find an object in the room to represent it. Place it in front of you to remind other travellers that you hold this item.
Ensure that no items are doubled up. For example, if another traveller already has dice, you cannot take dice from the cart.
Knife
Rope
Flute
Mask
Ring
Letter
Locket
Hammer
Lantern
Quill
Key
Flask
Dice

If no traveller took a new item from the cart, the party suffers the Curse of the Peddler. If this is the party's third Curse, click here.
If at least one traveller took a new item from the cart, discard the Peddler into the deck.

When a spirit is displeased by the party, it will lay its Curse upon them. Curses have dire consequences. The more Curses a party gathers, the more lives will be claimed in the Heart of the Wood. Furthermore, if a party incurs three Curses, the Wood's spirits will reject them and they will be forced to flee for their lives, ending the game.
When you incur a Curse, place it in a designated area of the table so that all travellers are aware of it.
With our packs newly bulging, we push on.
